9K a year JOB SUMMARY A Paint Surface Prep Technician supports the Paint Department by preparing parts for paint application.
Technicians will apply masking to components for in-process operations and conduct a variety of surface preparations on turbine engine components.
As a member of the Paint Department and Surface Prep (masking team) you will conduct pre and post-application tasks on turbine engine parts for in support of paint operations while learning information and theory on the preparation and painting of critical aerospace components.
This position will work alongside experienced Paint Technicians that allows continuous interaction of techniques, skill knowledge, print reading and interpretation.
You will become familiar with various types of paint application and equipment.

DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Mask components as required to protect surfaces from scheduled painting operations.
Apply tape by hand.
Apply hard masking such as caps and shields by following documented work instructions.
Trim masking using knives, razor blades, or other sharp tools.
Trim masking in accordance with detailed work instructions to precise dimensions.
Clean surfaces to be painted using solvents to ensure adhesion of the paint.
Set-up necessary fixtures for holding parts during the painting process.
Mix paint per manufacturer recommendations and work instructions.
Perform grit blast operations to the part in preparation for painting.
Remove all masking materials as required.
Wipe off any paint over-spray on non-painted areas.
Bake part as required per procedure.
Load and unload ovens in support of part post painting processes.
Clean all fixtures and guns to ensure their proper use the next time they are used.
Inspect work for completion and quality.
Follow written work instructions accurately including engineered sketches and drawings.
Routinely use overhead cranes and other support equipment in the staging and preparation of components.
Organize components staged in your department to support a more efficient schedule.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 6 months - 1 year of experience with various types of masking.
(Ex:
Paint, Blasting, Autobody, Plating, etc.
) Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and follow work instructions and accurately document processes and findings.
Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers and dial indicators, go/no-go gauges etc.
Experience with the safe handling of components, including the use of overhead cranes.
OTHER
Qualifications:
High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand eye coordination.
Ability to work independently and have the knowledge to perform the job with minimum supervision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Have the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of an eight-hour shift with some work being in difficult positions.
Must be able to pass a fitness-for-duty test and respirator fit test.
Perform various levels of equipment, environmental and safety maintenance on department assets.
Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions.
Able to wear additional PPE as required to include:
TyVek jumpsuits Respirators.
Exposure to dust and heat.
Move heavy parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, two person lifts, or other handling methods.
Move less heavy parts (.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
